very good stuff

One I'll remember

Not perfect and I don't think it's trying to be universally agreeable. But memorable? Definitely.

Thought provoking

That phrase gets thrown around a lot in reviews, but it's genuinely the best description. It asks more questions than it answers.

Had to recommend it

Finished it and immediately started talking about it with a friend. We ended up debating one of the ideas for nearly an hour.

The author seems almost determined to stay out of the way of his own book. Weird approach these days, but it made me focus more on the arguments.

Probably the weirdest effect of reading The Wrong Century is noticing ordinary things afterward and wondering why we all do them without thinking.

Good ideas, occasionally too much

Some arguments felt stronger than others and a few conclusions weren't convincing to me. The strongest chapters are genuinely excellent though.

Social media section was spot on

The discussion about social media changing from connecting people to competing for their attention was probably my favorite section.

Interesting but not for everyone

Some very good ideas, some I thought were pushed too far. Still finished it and I'm still thinking about it, so I guess the book did its job.

Hard to categorize

Philosophy? Social commentary? Psychology? Memoir-ish in places? I honestly don't know what shelf I'd put this on, and I mean that positively.

Strongest when discussing human behavior

For me, Vale is at his best when talking about ambition, fear, time and why people chase certain definitions of success.

Weirdly addictive

There's barely a traditional story to pull you forward, yet I kept saying "one more chapter." Hard to explain.

Finally something different

I'm tired of books that spend 200 pages explaining one obvious idea. This actually gave me things to think about.

Stayed in my head

Finished it two days ago and I'm still thinking about some of the points Orin Vale makes. The sections about time and constantly chasing the next thing hit hardest for me.

Uncomfortable in a good way

It doesn't constantly reassure the reader or tell you what you want to hear. That's probably what I liked most.
